Communication for Professional Life Twitter Wrap up

Chapter 6

• Anyone and everyone is and can be a leader. Especially within a participative system org.
• Degree of trust is both the hardest and most important leadership quality to attain. There is no clear cut way to do this.
• From local to federal governmental issues- Leader-Member Exchange could and should be implemented!

Chapter 7

• I have seen many a group discussion saved by socio-emotional comm. Comedy is a more valuable then I realized.
• “Truth is often meant in jest”
• Functional group decision-making theory: analyze, set goals, alt solutions, eval. REPEAT.

Chapter 8

• Filmmaking crews are fascinating orgs which are, in my experience, both intensely hierarchal in structure but also
participative in their comm.
• Advice from the Structuration table should be taken. Fav; Beware of expertise.
• We must always be mindful that the only constant is change.

Chapter 9

• Mediated communication is inherently skewed and as such should be done away with. Specifically, the something between
the source and the receiver.
• For many reasons stated by the authors and from having cut TV from my life for the past couple of years: TURN OFF YOUR
TVs PEOPLE OF AMERICA. There is a whole wide world out there. Separate from the TV Reality which is being created for
you. The world is not a “mean and scary” place.
• The great thing about the Social Learning Theory is the idea that although you’ve learned or modeled some ‘bad’
behaviors- they can be changed!

Chapter 10

• Communications Mantra: I will be Effective and Appropriate.
• Expectations – both communicators and recievers cause the biggest breakdown in comm in my experience. As such,
clarity and openness are key.
• Motivation- Knowledge- Skill. The idea of skill I find very hopeful. Life is a Skill in itself in fact.

Regarding Cultural Communication

A poem:

Our words and actions
Are our communications
But more than those
Our slang and piercings are too.

Face is everything it seems.
Save yours?
Save theirs?
Collective or Individual?
It's all continual.
FTAs are to be expected but avoided.

"All our mistakes we must surely be learning" right?
I think so.

Remember:
Don't avoid
Do Assert
Do Respect
Don't Compete
Do Collaborate and Compromise.

Lets all
Enlighten our Blue Chakras Together :)

I Want to Hold Yer Hand

Highest chart position: 1 (UK: December 14, 1963; May 16, 1964), 1 (US: February 1, 1964)

History:
Written in direct response to manager Brian Epstein's direction that the group create something for the American market, this song was composed, according to John Lennon, in the basement of the home of Paul's then-girlfriend, Jane Asher. \

This is the first Beatles song recorded on four tracks, as opposed to their usual two-track recording.

This is the first Beatles single to have advance orders of one million copies.

15-year-old fan Marsha Albert convinced WWDC (Washington, DC) radio DJ Carroll James to get a copy of the song airmailed in from England. James allowed Albert to introduce the song the first time he played it; the response was so immediate that Capitol was forced to bump up the release of the single by two full weeks.

This song was the Beatles' first Number One in America, selling 10,000 copies an hour in New York City alone.

Capitol Records was forced to farm out pressings of the single to other labels in order to facilitate demand.

The song that replaced it at Number One was
"She Loves You,"
marking the first time an artist had succeeded itself at the top spot since Elvis Presley (whose
"Love Me Tender"
had replaced
"Don't Be Cruel").

Hard Day's Night= Best Beatles Movie
Abbey Road= Best Beatles Album
Norweigen Wood= Best Beatles Single.

Therapists for Elders Exchange?

I am currently tackling a book entitled "Ecotherapy: Healing with Nature in Mind". It is supremely eye-opening and I highly recommend. Pictured above is how I feel when I'm reading it :)

The book is actually a collection of essays. The authors are therapists and other forms of mental health experts.

An excerpt:
"Ecotherapy, or applied ecopsychology, encompasses a broad range of nature-based methods of psychological healing, grounded in the crucial fact that people are inseparable from the rest of nature and nurtured by healthy interaction with the Earth."

One of the essayists, Andy Fischer, raises a topic which has caught my attention. The idea that we should replace therapists with elders. He was inspired by psychologist and wilderness guide Rhona Trotter. She believes that our society is suffering a great deal because the wise leadership, mentoring and shelter which could be offered by elders is going to waste.

I couldn't agree more with this fact. There are many realms of life which we have been doing backwards for far too long. We need to reinstitute some of the old ways which have gone by the wayside. One of these being, listening to our elders and recognizing that they have a place in our society. A great deal of healing could be found in their wisdom. What's more, I would venture to guess that empowering elders would free up a lot of space in nursing homes all across the country...

ANNE FRANK:
The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.

Thanks for reading.

Sunday Reflections

Life is good.
Don't forget to tell your mom you love her.
Love is magic.
Don't forget to let it in every once and again.

God is in you
It's in your biggest enemy.
Look for God in him
Then you'll stop the misery.

Full effort
is full return
Climbing the mountain
is half the fun.
Anyways,
once you get to the top
you've just begun.

Take and establish stress free time zones
Don't feel bad if you didn't make the team
No great acts
Just small acts of great love.

A friend told me a parable.
About an ancient serf.
He didn't believe in hardships-
His neighbors lamented over his ruined crop-
But was it bad?
Maybe yes, Maybe no.

I can't see the whole picture
so I'll just Let it Be.

Look Ma! I made breakfast.

I just made this and I wanted to share it with you. I think it's important that we share our accomplishments with each other- it inspires us and keeps us on the road to health for sure!

I've found the greatest thing about eating raw and natural, is that most everything goes together. It's hard to make a mistake...

Prevention Care VS Sick Care

It has been proven again and again that an active lifestyle with a healthy diet is the surest way to health. So what's the problem here? Why did I hear Cox Health is slowly becoming a bariatrics unit?

There is something at the core of our society which is breeding this obesity. The very unhealthy of our society are victims. They should be treated as such.

As far as health care reform goes, we should be working to get these people healthy.

We need a government run health care system which supplies basic health care to all. What other reason is there to have a government if it doesn't care for us?? Or maybe I'm missing the point...

Many other industrialized countries do this. Also, they have private health care institutions. Sounds like a win win to me.
So what's up America- what's taking us so long?

Could it be perhaps the fact that lobbyists from uber-corporations are writing the very legislation which is regulating them?

SO- I am putting forth the question- what is to be done?

My answer:
WE NEED TO KICK LOBBYISTS OUT of Federal Government
WE NEED TO STRENGTHEN Local and State Government.
We need to focus our energies upon community enterprises.

My rant is done.
